Drawing near to God

To Children of God on March 25, 2026

It can be a bit overwhelming or scary to draw near to God because you may be wondering, "Where do I begin?" Often, when you try to read the Bible, it’s hard to truly understand what is going on.

Because of this, you may feel you need someone to read the Bible and break it down for you through sermons; hence you look for one teacher or the other.

When going through difficult situations, you may pray in your house, but you still look for someone you feel may be more connected to God, perhaps because of the person's title in the gathering or how fervent they seem in doing the things of God.

You may feel the need to be around fellow believers, or in a place where God's word is shared, so you go to one gathering or the other, from one pastor to the other, in search for this connection.

For some, they just don’t have time to study, but they know in their hearts that they want to serve God, so they seek the next best thing.

We do what it takes, according to what we know, to draw closer to God and do His will.

God’s Acknowledgment

God is aware of you zeal and desire for him, so He said this:

Rev 2:19 NLT: "I know all the things you do. I have seen your love, your faith, your service, and your patient endurance. And I can see your constant improvement in all these things."

With this, I think you can be comforted knowing your God loves you and is aware of the effort you have put into knowing and serving Him.

Hold on to this and continue to seek Him.

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

There is one very important thing that will help you get closer to Him and experience Him with less effort.

Faith: The faith to serve God with the Holy Spirit.

Heb 10:38 NLT: "And my righteous ones will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure in anyone who turns away."

You must have faith that God is with you always. As Jesus Christ said:

Mat 28:20 NLT: "Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

I urge you to go about your day with this in mind: He is with you always through the Spirit of God He has sent to you.

Don’t be overwhelmed by fear, or be scared that the Spirit of God may be too big, confusing, or that you may fail or sin.

God's love for us is too great; don't worry, because nothing can separate you from this love.

Rom 8:38-39 NLT: "And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love."

The Comforter and Teacher

The Spirit of God that is with you is called the "Comforter" or "Helper" by Jesus Christ.

Jhn 14:16 ESV: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever."

Jhn 14:16 KJV - 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

The Spirit of God is your Comforter and Helper, always with you forever and everywhere.

He won’t come to condemn you, even though those who call themselves Christians may condemn you.

He won’t be unavailable or unreachable, even though your friends, family, or even a minister may not be available.

He won’t pressure you to do things that are burdensome, though the world and people in it may pressure you.

The Holy Spirit is a truly safe space; draw near to Him.

The Spirit of Truth

Jesus Christ also calls the Spirit of God the "Spirit of Truth."

Jhn 14:17 ESV: "He is the Spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him because it doesn’t see him or know him. But you do know him, because he remains with you and will be in you."

This is very personal. While the world cannot see or know Him, it is God’s love for you that allows you to know Him through faith

He will even teach you personally because He comes with the truth about Jesus Christ.

Jhn 15:26 ESV: "But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me."

And the same Spirit of God will teach you all things, which is an amazing experience!

Jhn 14:26 ESV: "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you."

I am not using my own words, but the words of the one you believe— "Jesus Christ".

If you believe Him, have faith in the words as you hear them in your heart while reading.

Give some time during the week and throughout the day to think and meditate on these things

Find time in your schedule to read about Jesus from the Book of John, and you’ll see the Holy Spirit teaching you and giving you an understanding of things.

These things you are reading right now are deep mysteries that God has kept for you to understand in this end time period, for your own glory.

1 Cor 2:7 KJV: "But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory."

Meditate on this, and enjoy the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

1Co 2:10-13 NIV - 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
11 For who knows a person's thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.
13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.
